Violet enters her husband's study, turns to her cook and
says "You're very pretty,"she then asks, in a tone of thinly veiled
desperation, "Do you think I'm pretty?", the cook replies "Yes,
Violet is pretty." When Violet asks the cook that question, it is not a
matter of complimenting her but a test of cooperation and exchanging.
